SEXATION Project
- New project launched in April bringing sexual health and creatives together
- Aims to enable stigma-challenging conversations among Black African and Caribbean communities in Manchester and Salford
- “Self-Love” workshop explored boundaries, intimacy, and relationships
- Workshop with Manchester-based florist Symone helped women explore femininity through flower arranging
- Intergenerational participation with mothers and daughters attending together
Team Updates
- Introduction of new team members: Bothwell and Megan
- Bothwell brings 6 years of HIV prevention experience from Zimbabwe
- Megan has background in Health Literacy research and experience working with refugees and asylum seekers
- Team presented work on PrEP at the Fast Track Cities 2023 Conference in Amsterdam
PrEP Awareness
- PrEP is a pill that HIV-negative people can take to prevent HIV
- Available for free from the NHS
- BHA facilitates a Community Panel on PrEP to share experiences and design effective campaigns
- Working to raise awareness among global majority populations in Greater Manchester

- Contraception guide available in multiple languages (English, French, Arabic, Hungarian, Romanian, Ukrainian)
- STI guide available in English, Urdu, Farsi, and Portuguese
- Free condom ordering service with various types available
- Free and confidential HIV and STI testing available weekly in Trafford and Manchester, monthly in other areas
- Home HIV testing kits available with phone support
Community Engagement
- Radio show “The Equality Talk” (November 4th 2023 – January 27th 2024, Saturdays 1-2 PM on Radio Africana)
- Community outreach at festivals and events
- Group sessions on navigating the health system, safer sex, menopause, pleasure, body positivity, relationships, and consent
