Appointment of new BHA CEO

March 4, 2021 | 0 Comments

BHA are pleased to announce that following the impending retirement of our outgoing Chief Executive Dr Priscilla Nkwenti at the end of March 2021, the Board of Trustees have completed the recruitment process to appoint a new CEO to lead the organisation.

Aydin Djemal will join BHA for Equality as its new CEO in April 2021. Aydin was selected from a number of high calibre candidates who applied for the role when the Board began its recruitment processes last Autumn.

Aydin joins BHA having spent the past 5 years as CEO for the homelessness charity Wirral Ark. Aydin, who is from Manchester, has a strong background and experience working in the charity sector and with vulnerable and marginalised groups. He has worked in a number of senior roles including working for a children’s charitable trust, an equalities disability charity and many other community based and charitable organisations.

Aydin impressed the selection panel with his vision for BHA and his previous leadership experience as well as his focus on facing the challenges that lie ahead for the charity sector and how to ensure that we continue to operate for the good of our service users.  The Board look forward to working alongside Aydin as he looks to take BHA forward and continuing the excellent work of Priscilla and the current senior management team and staff group.

Commenting on the appointment Francesca Tackie, Chair of the Board of Trustees said:

‘It was always going to be difficult to select someone to take on the CEO role after the legacy which has been left following the numerous years of dedication and service that have been given by Priscilla.  I feel that Aydin is the standout candidate who possesses the right qualities to lead the organisation into a new phase and I look forward to working him.  Whilst I am excited to see Aydin join us, I will also be sad to see Priscilla leave. I have enjoyed working with her since I joined the Board in 2015.  I wish her well for the future and I sincerely hope she will remain a friend of BHA for many years to come.’

A note from outgoing CEO Priscilla:

‘Having worked with BHA for over 30 years, it is with pleasure that I hand it over to you Aydin and wish you well. Rest assured I will always be a friend of the organisation.’

Aydin Djemal had this to say about his new role:

‘I was delighted when I learned I’d been selected for this role and would like to thank the Board for putting their trust in me. Thanks also go to Priscilla for leaving the charity in such fine fettle after so many years of impressive service. I’m eager to begin this new phase and looking forward to getting to know the BHA family.’

Due to the ongoing pandemic, it seems we will be unable to arrange an immediate physical meeting with everyone to formally introduce Aydin when he joins, however arrangements will be made in due course for virtual introductions.  Further updates will be provided in due course.
