HIV Prevention Service

BHA is undertaking collaborative work with Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) community groups in Manchester and the Wirral to raise awareness of HIV, promote HIV testing and improve access to sexual health and HIV services for communities. Activities undertaken include:

• The delivery of outreach sessions to increase awareness of HIV and minimise the transmission and acquisition of HIV among individuals and communities.

• Skills building sessions to increase confidence, motivation and build skills to discuss sexual health, negotiate condom use and increase control of individuals in terms of the sexual health.

• Production and dissemination of HIV information materials appropriate to the communities we work with.

• Delivery of HIV prevention campaigns with BME communities including gay/ bisexual men and women

• Promotion of screening for sexually transmitted infections and HIV testing

• Distribution condoms and lubricants to community settings or venues frequented by BME community members. The condoms distribution is funded by Manchester Condom distribution scheme.
